our little emerson has finally been discharged from the Home Nutrition Support Program! normally only kids being tube fed are on the program, but they kept her on even though the last 10 months she has had a g-tube but NOT USED IT. she was a weird situation but we are finally off the program! i feel like we're finally moving away from all of the medical mumble jumble.
well, i shouldn't say that -- now she switches to another speech language (swallowing) person -- same wonderful lady we had with kai. we love her so i am happy for this switch! the goal is to get her off thickened fluids, which we are starting now.... i am trying her on thin liquids and we'll see if she gets sick or not.
i have to run, but there is a quick update! and a big birthday shout out to purple cow!

thinking on paper
***thinking on paper***
we are unsure of it we will have 1 more child or not. i think i want to, kipp is happy with 3 but i think he could be persueded into having a 4th.
what are some pros and cons of large families??? i came from a family with only 2 kids (i have one sister) and i always wanted a bigger family.
i also have the dayhome right now, so i have an 18 month old full time, mon-fri so i know can "do" 4 kids... but in reality, can i? can we?
pros
--one more amazing child to love, obviously! enough said!!
--i love the whole large family thing later in life, as well as when the kids are growing up... i just always have wanted a big family.
--nice equal number... my friend with 4 said it's actually "easier" than 3.... the kids pair up. hmmm....
--by the time we had another, my oldest would be in school FT (grade 1) and kai in kindergarten... does that make me less busy or more busy?!?? LOL
--i think i would finally feel done with 4. 3 i just feel unsure of being done, 4 would take the cake. ;) LOL again
--no need to upgrade home or vehicle!
--hand me down clothes from both genders, so we're set! (from here onward ... i have gotten rid of everything baby sized already)
cons
--more costs (food later on, clothes, post secondary education, sports activites)
--right now each child has their own room, a 4th would mean 2 have to share but not a big deal in my opinion
--less attention on each child???
--do i really want to have another year of no sleep?? (we lucked out with emmy, she was a great sleeper... kai on the other hand, was not)
--pregnancy weight gain (i had trouble losing it last time -- and thus far i have gained 5 permenent pounds per child)
--stuck in the baby stages for a bit longer when we're almost out of them
--possibility of having another child with swallowing dysfunction??
--we already got rid of our baby clothes, baby "gear", etc. except for the crib! (but all of the above can be found second hand for cheap!)
--would mean i couldn't really do dayhome... well maybe keep the one FT i have but otherwise, no. or just not until the older kids are in school FT.
hmmmm ???? why is this so tough???? it was much easier with the other kids.... they just came along and it was all perfect. am i putting too much thought into things? not enough thought?
also, if we have one more, do we have it sooner or lateR? sooner would be good for many reasons, but later is also appealing. AAAAAAHHHHHHHH

yogurt!
so emerson is 20 months old and i still spoon feed her yogurt & apple sauce. i know for sure that hallie and kai fed themselves much earlier. i just haven't really given emerson a try because she is SO messy and doesn't seem to "get" the whole self-feeding concept! LOL ... but i know in order to learn, there will be mess. so here is her first attempt!
my sister's bridal shower
a beautiful quilt made by my great grandma! we have a few of these as well and we LOVE them!!!

blah!
i haven't updated in almost 10 days. oops! and guess what -- i haven't taken pictures in 10 days... on purpose! i am feeling like i've been taking too many so this week i left the camera at home. oh wait, i have some bridal shower pictures from my sister's shower last sunday, but i haven't uploaded those yet.
so... break down of the week:
last week friday: dr eppt for emerson with her ENT. she went for a hearing test which came back fine, still has fluid in her ears. dr Rx'd reflux meds for her, yet again... i don't quite understand why but he insisted it would help the ears and her drooling. weird. i didn't fill the presciption yet. i'm not quite convinced.
saturday - spent the entire day running around to get things ready for my sister's bridal shower on sunday, as well as some other shopping. i brought kai and emerson with me. hallie was in red deer with my parents, visiting my grandma. she was with them for 2 nights. a nice little break but we missed her lots! so with the younger 2 kids, we did some rides at west ed as well.
sunday - bridal shower day! funny thing that happened -- someone came in and handed me their gift. i was asking if they knew anyone who was there yet and she didn't seem to... then she asked if she had the right place and i insisted, YES, this was the shower.... but she was at the WRONG shower! LOL !!! she was supposed to be at a baby shower down the street i guess. i felt so silly (i had taken her gift!) and she must have felt even worse! she had just walked in, as everyone else had.
sunday after the shower we reconnected with old friends who moved away a couple of years ago. they are back now, with 2 more kids -- total of 4! this has sparked the idea of us having 1 more baby... sooner than later ;) we'll see!! we had a great visit with them and the kids all played well.
monday we went to millenium place! fun! the toddlers are loving this place now that they're mobile!
tuesday & wednesday i hosted playdates for different groups of friends. one was ladies morning out, the other a random meetup group.
wednesday evening kipp's parents arrived. they are camping nearby, so not staying with us.
thursday we went to millwoods rec center's indoor playground. another place the toddlers are loving! thursday evening kipp's parents came for dinner and a movie.
which brings us to today -- what a busy day! i took the kids to toys R us to spend the last of hallie's bday money. i let them each pick something (with some guidance) instead of her spending the whole chunk. hallie chose 2 sets of polly pockets, kai chose a air rocket thingy, and emmy (i) picked a little push popper thingy. she walks and pushes it like a little vacuum -- i'm sure you've seen them. they are from way back in the day, but now updated colors. hers is pink!
then off to lunch with juanita & kids, and grandpa at mcdonalds! we rarely go here anymore, let alone inside. the kids were in heaven. (even though they gave us rotten chocolate milk. ew.)
then... off to the dr. for miss emmy and kai. (kai split his head open last sunday after the shower, goofing around in the basement!) so kai had his head checked and somehow the checkup turned into checking other things... and long story short, kai may be checked for celiac's disease in 2 months if the new meds he was prescribed don't show a change in his stool. (i won't go into detail -- i just hope he doesn't have celiac's)
emmy is fine -- he checked on her g-tube site and it's healing well. he is going to talk to her ENT about the reflux meds because he also wasn't quite sure on WHY they were prescribed. i want her off all meds. **good news -- emmy has shown signs of not needing her drinks thickened -- not sure yet but will find out more on her next home nutrition appointment. YAY !!
after the doctors, we were off to the ZOO with the kids, daddy, and his parents. it was a great time, even though our zoo is pretty lame. really... it seems to have gone down hill. or maybe just was more exciting when i was younger? it seemed over priced (we have passes, but the rides seemed pricey -- pony rides were $4.50 per child, they walked them twice around a small circle. yay. train was lame!! the kids even thought so. the lady driving it didn't talk at all, not sure if she was supposed to but i saw speakers. it looped around a small area.... ) but we all enjoyed the time together.
ok i am off...
kids have a bday party tomorrow and i may take some pics this week. i know posts aren't the same without pictures!
hope you all had a great week.... speaking of which, i haven't seen many updated blogs.... ;) come on friends!!!

a day at the fort...
we went to fort edmonton park today... took advantage of having the multi-facility passes... the kids had a lot of fun so we'll be going more often this year. last year they weren't as interested....
hallie on the "bug ride" which is free, and for ages 2-6 yrs
beaumont spray park
we went to beaumont spray park on tuesday... we thought it was going to be a nice day, my van temp said 28 degrees, but we got there and it was a bit chilly.... the older kids still got a tiny bit wet while the rest of us just sat and ate the picnic lunch we had packed.
we met up with heather & prevail, and jerilyn and her kids (and someone else she brought) also came a bit later.

leftover cheetos from hallie's party... thought we'd bring to share but emmy hogged the bag ;)
gross picture post -- be warned!!!
first day with no g-tube
shortly after g-tube popped out
g-tube right after it came out, for those interested in seeing the other side of it. it is held in by a water balloon that i could inflate/deflate as needed... but it was still inflated when it came out. kai lifted emerson up by her tummy and it just was enough to pull it out. must have been it's time...
